Get more for less with flexible outsourcing

In 2013, KEN storkøkken changed from its own servers to a wall-to-wall hosting solution at IT Relation. Especially the economic aspect was important in considering the shift; it should simply be worthwhile for the company to choose an outsourced solution.

KEN storkøkken started in 1940 selling kitchen fixtures, and today the company is one of the leading distributors of industrial kitchens, with 50 employees and several thousand customers in Denmark. The company’s work includes projects from ideas to finished decor, and needs a complete IT solution that supports the process from the initial customer meeting to the finished project. KEN storkøkken has found that solution at IT Relation, which  – with an integrated hosting solution  – serves as the company’s expanded IT department; "All our IT is handled by a competent team at IT Relation, and it allows us to use our resources in other areas of the company," says Financial Manager, Dennis Jensen.

It has to make economic sense to outsource

"The price played an important role in our considerations to switch to a hosting solution at IT Relation. Until the change took place, we had our own servers, and there should be clear economic benefits from a new solution," says Dennis Jensen. The shift from their own servers to a full IT outsourcing hosted by IT Relation resulted in savings in IT operations, and it was also a great advantage for the company because all IT  – from security to financial management  – is now in one place. "At IT Relation, we have it all in one place, and we do not have to spend resources on operations and support ourselves. It has been easier to adapt our IT to business changes, as IT Relation can quickly adapt our solutions as needed," explains Dennis Jensen. With the IT outsourcing, KEN storkøkken can now focus on their business, while security updates, support and customisation are handled at IT Relation.

IT applications in scalable solutions

In the daily work with interior design projects for clients, the CAD Light program Vectorworks is an important part of the employee tools. The design program is extensive and requires high-performance servers and IT equipment. That is why we have chosen a hybrid solution via high-speed line access to data on a hosted environment from local PCs. Dennis Jensen explains that IT security issues and any performance problems can be prevented by using the Managed Desktop Solution, "Our CAD Light solution is flexible because local PCs with high performance are combined with centrally hosted services."

Dennis Jensen says, that the hybrid solution makes it possible for some of the company's employees to work with complicated design programs, while others use remote desktop access to the hosted environment. "If we had to manage CAD Light ourselves it would be too comprehensive and costly for us. In this way, it is easier to adapt our IT to business changes in the company, and we avoid abrupt spending on demanding IT equipment."

Competent support at hand

Because the employees at KEN storkøkken were used to receiving help in the office when there were technical problems, there were initial doubts about the new support solution by telephone. Today, these doubts have been replaced by satisfaction because support at IT Relation functions effectively, says Dennis Jensen, "If problems arise, the employees quickly have a competent person on the other end of the phone, who is qualified to help in the best possible way."

KEN storkøkken also experiences it as a great benefit that IT Relation is part of a larger group with different focus areas within IT. Therefore, the company now also uses products from IT Relation, including Business Intelligence solutions. "Because IT Relation’s reach is as broad as an IT house, it has been possible for us to draw on their other skills. This makes the management of our IT foreseeable, and their Service Desk has the power to help, whatever problem we may have," says Dennis Jensen.

The customer's IT solution

KEN storkøkken have chosen to outsource their entire IT to IT Relation. The solution includes Citrix servers, SQL servers, an Exchange server and a file server. Upon the customer’s request, KEN storkøkken also runs applications such as the CAD Light program Vectorworks, which can be scaled as desired. IT Relation ensures monitoring, patching of updates and saving daily backups of their systems.
